SEE | Angle of Repose at Cerritos College Art Gallery
Angle of Repose, a collaboration between Kendra Adler and Dana Funaro, opens today at Cerritos College Art Gallery and runs through February 21st.

The exhibition uses salt as both inspiration and material. Funaro's sculptures become activated through Adler's performances as she drapes, wraps, and moves these forms in relation to her body throughout the show's run. Over time, Adler builds a salt mound on polished copper until it reaches its natural settling point, that precise moment of equilibrium the title references.

Laura Wynne's film projection layers footage of Adler at Death Valley's Badwater Basin over Funaro's salt paper panels, while Nate Evans' soundscape uses salt's sonic frequency to thread through the entire installation... material to image to object to gesture.

The work unfolds through duration and repetition. If you can attend one of the performances (February 11th, 14th, or 21st at 2pm), you'll see how the installation accumulates and shifts in real time.

We're honored to have played a small part by lending our elephant grass baskets to hold the salt itself. The pieces were woven by the Sirigu Women's Organization for Pottery and Art, a non-governmental organization based in northern Ghana. It feels appropriate that handwork from one tradition supports this meditation on material, balance, and the body.
