AGNES BADDOO | at home in New York

Our friends at Pampa, the Australian-Argentinian textile studio, visited Agnes Baddoo last year while in New York. We're resharing some of that beautiful photoshoot here, with Pampa's permission. Images by Victoria Aguirre.

Agnes Baddoo is known for her leather goods brand, which is built on minimalist forms and traditional craft, and is beloved for its gender-neutral pieces that quietly accumulate patina over time.

Agnes grew up in New York, shaped by a Ghanaian father who brought home wood carvings and kente cloth, a Jamaican grandmother who wove and crocheted, and a mother who understood what a well-chosen textile could do to a room. She came to design through styling and the magazine world, eventually founding her namesake leather goods company after inheriting her mother's well-worn leather tote and finding nothing in the market that could replace it.

Victoria photographed Agnes on a bright afternoon, capturing the storied, material-rich rooms she's built over years. Agnes' home, a few steps from Central Park, is calm and layered, filled with natural materials, art, and objects gathered from years of travel and making.

We've had the pleasure of knowing Agnes for a while now and have admired how she helms her small business. She's also supported our small business, collecting unusual lighting and basketry from our annual Seconds Sale over the years. It's a pleasure to see these elephant grass pieces among the textiles and objects gathered from across her life, and incorporated into a space that feels like such a beautiful reflection of her.

What luck to find ourselves among such a group of women entrepreneurs.
