These pot shaped baskets are handwoven in Zimbabwe by the BaTonga people using locally harvested organic material such as dried palm leaves, wild grasses and vines. They have been woven in the traditional way featuring simple geometric patterns. Each basket is a unique piece, and makes a very special gift.
Zimbabwe has a great tradition of fine artisans, especially basket weavers, and the BaTonga are particularly famous for their weaving skills. Displaced from their traditional land by the construction of a dam in the 1950s, these talented artisans have overcome many obstacles to get their products to market.
